Comparative Religion - Islam's View of Other Faiths

Learn how Islam views other religions and their prophets.

Lesson & Story

Islam has a unique perspective on other religions. Muslims believe that Allah sent prophets to every nation — including Prophet Musa (AS) with the Torah, Prophet Isa (AS) with the Injil (Gospel), and Prophet Dawud (AS) with the Zabur (Psalms). The Quran mentions these prophets with great respect. However, Muslims believe that the original Torah, Injil, and Zabur were altered over time, and the Quran was sent as the final, uncorrupted revelation. The Quran says: The religion with Allah is Islam. This means submitting to Allah's will is the core message of all prophets. Muslims believe in all prophets without distinction — we don't reject any of them. The Quran says: We make no distinction between any of His messengers. The People of the Book (Jews and Christians) hold a special status in Islam — Muslims can eat their food and marry their women. The Quran encourages dialogue: Say: O People of the Book, come to a word that is just between us and you: that we worship none but Allah. Islam respects the followers of other faiths while presenting the Quran as the final, complete guidance from Allah.

Qur'an Verses

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:136) · Ayah 136

Qulu amanna billahi wa ma unzila ilayna wa ma unzila ila Ibrahim wa Isma'ila wa Ishaqa wa Ya'qub

Translation: Say: We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa.

Authentic Hadith

Sahih al-Bukhari 3443 & Sahih al-Bukhari 15

The Prophet ﷺ said: I am the closest of the people to Isa son of Maryam, for there is no prophet between me and him. He also said: None of you truly believes until he loves me more than his father, his children, and all people.
