The Prophet's Cat - Kindness to Animals
Learn how the Prophet ﷺ was kind to animals, especially cats.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was very kind to animals! He loved cats especially. His companion Abu Hurayrah (RA) was called Abu Hurayrah which means Father of the Kitten — because he loved cats and always carried a small cat with him! The Prophet ﷺ said: A woman was punished because she tied up a cat and didn't feed it until it died. She went to Hell because of that! But another person gave water to a thirsty dog, and Allah forgave all his sins! The Prophet ﷺ said: There is no creature on earth or bird that flies with its wings except that it is a community like you. This means all animals are like communities — just like us! We should never hurt animals, never scare them, and always feed them if they are hungry. If we have a pet, we must take very good care of it. Allah loves people who are kind to animals!

Wa ma min dabbatin fi al-ardi wa la ta'irin yatiru bi-janahayhi illa umamun amthalukum
Translation: And there is no creature on earth or bird that flies with its wings except that they are communities like you.
