Patience (Sabr) for Kids

Learn about patience — one of the most important qualities in Islam.

Lesson & Story

Sabr means patience in Arabic. It is one of the most important qualities a Muslim can have! Allah mentions Sabr over 90 times in the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ said: No one is given a gift better and more comprehensive than patience. Being patient means: 1. When something bad happens, you don't complain — you say Alhamdulillah and trust Allah. 2. When you want to do something wrong, you stop yourself. 3. When you're praying or fasting, you keep going even when it's hard. The Prophet ﷺ said: How wonderful is the case of a believer! There is good for him in whatever happens — if he is happy, he is grateful, and that is good. If he is sad, he is patient, and that is good. Prophet Ayyub (AS) was the most patient person — he lost everything but never complained. Prophet Yusuf (AS) was patient in prison for years. Allah rewards patient people with Paradise!

Qur'an Verses
