The Story of Zamzam - Allah's Miracle Water
Learn about the miraculous well of Zamzam that still flows in Makkah today.
When Prophet Ibrahim (AS) left his wife Hajar and baby Ismail in the valley of Makkah by Allah's command, Hajar had no food or water. Baby Ismail started crying from thirst. Hajar ran between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times, looking for water. She couldn't find any. Then, by Allah's mercy, the angel Jibril struck the ground near baby Ismail, and a spring of water gushed forth! Hajar gathered the water and made a basin around it. She said: Zam, Zam! (Stop, stop!) — and that's how the well got its name: Zamzam. This well has been flowing for thousands of years and never dries up! Millions of pilgrims drink from it every year during Hajj and Umrah. The Prophet ﷺ said: The water of Zamzam serves whatever purpose it is drunk for. Today, running between Safa and Marwa is part of Hajj and Umrah.
