The Signs of the Day of Judgment
Learn about the major and minor signs of the Day of Judgment in Islam.
The Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah) is the day when Allah will resurrect all humans and judge them for their deeds. The Quran says: The Hour is coming, but I have not revealed when. The Prophet ﷺ told us about signs that would appear before the Day of Judgment. The minor signs include: the sending of the Prophet ﷺ himself, the spread of knowledge and ignorance, the building of tall buildings by barefoot shepherds, time passing quickly, the increase of killings and earthquakes, and people competing in worldly things. The major signs include: the appearance of the Dajjal (the False Messiah), the descent of Prophet Isa (AS) from heaven, the release of Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj), the sun rising from the west, the Beast of the Earth, and the fire that gathers people. The Prophet ﷺ said: I and the Hour have been sent like these two — pointing to his index and middle fingers. This means the Hour is very close. We should prepare for the Day of Judgment by doing good deeds, praying, fasting, giving charity, and living according to Islam.

Iqtarabati as-sa'ah
Translation: The Hour has come near.
Authentic Hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said: I and the Hour have been sent like these two — and he pointed to his index and middle fingers. He also said: The Hour will not begin until the sun rises from the west.
Explanation
This hadith shows how close the Day of Judgment is. The Prophet's coming is the first minor sign, and the sun rising from the west is a major sign after which repentance will no longer be accepted.
The Day of Judgment is real and approaching. The Prophet ﷺ told us about signs that would appear before it. We should prepare by doing good deeds and living according to Islam.
