Fiqh of Salah - The Rules of Prayer

Learn the detailed rules of Salah including conditions, obligations, and Sunnah acts.

Lesson & Story

Salah (prayer) is the second pillar of Islam and the first thing we will be asked about on the Day of Judgment. Understanding its rules (fiqh) is essential for every Muslim. The conditions (Shurut) of Salah include: being Muslim, having wudu, facing the Qiblah, covering the awrah, and praying at the right time. The obligatory elements (Fard) of Salah include: Takbirat al-Ihram (opening Allahu Akbar), standing in Qiyam, reciting Al-Fatihah, Ruku (bowing), Sujud (prostration), the final Tashahhud, and the Taslim (saying Assalamu alaykum at the end). The Sunnah acts include raising the hands, placing the right hand over the left, and the specific supplications. Salah invalidators include: losing wudu, laughing, talking, eating, or turning away from the Qiblah. The Prophet ﷺ said: Pray as you have seen me pray. This means we should follow the Prophet's exact method of prayer.

Qur'an Verses
