The Five Daily Prayers - Salah Times

Allah commands Muslims to pray five times every day. Each prayer has a special time. Fajr is prayed before sunrise, in the early morning. Dhuhr is prayed at noon when the sun is at its highest. Asr is prayed in the afternoon. Maghrib is prayed just after sunset. Isha is prayed at night. The five daily prayers are the second pillar of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The covenant between us and them is prayer, so whoever leaves it has disbelieved.' Each prayer has a different number of units (rak'ahs): Fajr has 2, Dhuhr has 4, Asr has 4, Maghrib has 3, and Isha has 4. Before praying, we must make wudu (ablution) to be clean. We also face the Qiblah (the direction of the Ka'bah in Makkah). Prayer is our connection to Allah — five times a day, we stop everything and talk to our Creator.
Qur'an Verses
إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا
Inna as-salata kanat 'ala al-mu'minina kitaban mawqutan
Translation: Indeed, prayer is decreed upon the believers at determined times.
Authentic Hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The covenant between us and them is prayer. So whoever leaves it has disbelieved.' He also said: 'The first thing for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer.'
Explanation
This hadith shows how critical prayer is. It is the covenant between us and Allah — the first thing we'll be asked about on the Day of Judgment.
