Eating Manners in Islam - Sunnah at the Table
Learn the beautiful Islamic manners for eating and drinking.
Islam teaches us beautiful manners for eating. Before eating, we say 'Bismillah.' We eat with our right hand. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O boy, mention the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you.' We should not eat too much — the Prophet ﷺ taught us to fill our stomach with one-third food, one-third water, and one-third air. We should not waste food. After eating, we say 'Alhamdulillah.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah is pleased with the servant who eats a meal and praises Him for it.' We should also share our food with others. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The food of one person is enough for two, the food of two is enough for four, and the food of four is enough for eight.' Eating with good manners makes every meal a form of worship!
