Hasan ibn Ali (RA) - The Peacemaker

Learn about Hasan (RA), the Prophet's grandson who reunited the Ummah through peace.

Lesson & Story

Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, the son of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Fatima (RA). The Prophet ﷺ loved Hasan deeply and said: 'O Allah, I love him, so love him and love those who love him.' Hasan (RA) was known for his generosity, wisdom, and piety. He was the fifth caliph of Islam. After the assassination of his father Ali (RA), Hasan became the caliph. However, to prevent further bloodshed and division among Muslims, Hasan (RA) made the greatest sacrifice for peace — he gave up the caliphate to Mu'awiyah. This act of peace reunited the Muslim Ummah and prevented a civil war. The Prophet ﷺ had prophesied this: 'This son of mine is a master (sayyid), and through him Allah will reconcile two great groups of Muslims.' This prophecy came true exactly as the Prophet said. Hasan (RA) was known for his generosity — he gave away his wealth three times, shared his possessions, and was kind to everyone. He was also known for his worship, pilgrimage, and deep knowledge of the Quran. Hasan (RA) was one of the most beloved people to the Prophet ﷺ.
