Lesson & Story

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the earliest Muslims and one of the most knowledgeable companions. He was a young shepherd when he heard about the Prophet ﷺ. After accepting Islam, Ibn Mas'ud (RA) became known for his beautiful recitation of the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever wants to hear the Quran as fresh as it was revealed, let him hear it from Ibn Umm Abd (Ibn Mas'ud).' The Prophet ﷺ also said: 'I am pleased with what Ibn Mas'ud is pleased with.' Ibn Mas'ud (RA) was the first person to recite the Quran openly in Makkah. The Quraysh beat him severely, but he refused to stop. He said: 'By Allah, I will never stop reciting the Book of Allah.' Ibn Mas'ud (RA) was known for his deep understanding of the Quran. He said: 'By Allah, I know where every verse was revealed and about what it was revealed.' He narrated many hadiths and taught thousands of students. Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) said: 'Ibn Mas'ud is full of knowledge, like a vessel that overflows.' The Prophet ﷺ described Ibn Mas'ud as one of the most trusted companions with the Quran.
