Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (RA) - The Apostle's Disciple
Learn about Zubayr (RA), the Prophet's cousin and one of the greatest warriors of Islam.
Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) was the cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and one of the earliest companions. He accepted Islam at the age of sixteen. The Prophet ﷺ called him 'Hawari' — the disciple — of the Prophet, similar to how Prophet Isa (AS) had disciples (Hawariyyun). Zubayr (RA) was known for his bravery and skill with the sword. He was the first to draw his sword in the path of Allah. At every major battle — Badr, Uhud, Khandaq, and others — Zubayr fought with extraordinary courage. The Prophet ﷺ said about Zubayr: 'Every prophet has a disciple (Hawari), and my disciple is Zubayr.' Zubayr (RA) was also known for his deep devotion to worship and the Quran. He would complete the entire Quran in one day during Ramadan. He was one of the ten companions promised Paradise. Despite being a great warrior, Zubayr was humble and lived a life of devotion to Allah. He was also known for his generosity — he owned lands and gave abundantly to the poor. His story teaches us that true strength comes from faith, and the greatest warriors are those who are closest to Allah.
