Prophet Ilyas (AS) - The Faithful Servant
Learn about Prophet Ilyas (AS) who called his people away from idol worship.
Prophet Ilyas (peace be upon him) was sent to the people of Baalbek (in modern-day Lebanon). His people worshipped an idol called 'Baal' instead of Allah. Ilyas (AS) called them to worship Allah alone, warning them of punishment if they persisted. Most of his people rejected him. Allah says in the Quran: 'Ilyas was indeed one of the messengers.' The Quran describes how Ilyas warned his people: 'Will you not fear Allah? Do you call upon Baal and leave the best of creators?' Despite rejection, Ilyas remained steadfast. Allah elevated his status. The Quran says: 'Peace be upon Ilyas.' Some traditions say Ilyas was taken up to heaven alive, similar to Isa (AS). The Prophet ﷺ met Ilyas during the Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj). Ilyas (AS) is a prophet of dedication who never gave up calling to Allah, even when few listened.
