Prophet Dawud (AS) - The Psalmist and King
Learn about Prophet Dawud (AS), his victory over Goliath, and his beautiful recitation of the Zabur.
Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him) was a prophet and king of the Children of Israel. As a young boy, he faced the giant warrior Jalut (Goliath) who terrified the entire army. With Allah's help, Dawud defeated Jalut with just a sling and a stone. Allah gave Dawud the Zabur (Psalms) and made him a prophet. Dawud (AS) had a beautiful voice — when he recited the Zabur, the mountains and birds sang along with him. Allah also gave him the ability to make armor from iron, which was a miracle. Dawud (AS) was known for his fasts — he used to fast every alternate day. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The most beloved fasting to Allah is the fasting of Dawud, who used to fast alternate days.' Despite being a powerful king, Dawud lived simply and worshipped Allah with devotion.
